HISTORICAL GLANCE:
In the junction of the 18th and 19th centuries next to the market square of Naujoji/New Žagarė a complex of two mural white synagogues has been built. The bigger one and more splendid one was the summer synagogue (P. Avižonio str. 7A), while in the smaller had the heating system and was used during the cold season. (P. Avižonio str. 5A).
THE CURRENT SITUATION:
Both synagogues of Naujoji/New Žagarė have been rebuilt during the Soviet period, their functions have been changed as well: the winter synagogue became both a craftsmen workshop and sport`s hall, while the summer synagogue was dedicated to the fire-safety department of Žagarė.
